IPINSAGBA DISMISSES REPORT OF APC PRIMARY DEFEAT, SAYS POLITICAL CAREER REMAINS STRONG


AKURE, ONDO STATE – Senator Olajide Ipinsagba, who represents Ondo North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has dismissed reports claiming he lost the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary and that his political career has come to an end.

The lawmaker's reaction comes amid uncertainty surrounding the outcome of the APC senatorial primary, as the party’s National Secretariat has yet to officially release the results of the exercise, leaving party members and stakeholders awaiting formal confirmation.

In a statement issued on Monday by his media aide, Prince Adeyinka Ajagunna, Ipinsagba described the reports circulating on some platforms as false, misleading, and intended to create a wrong impression about his political standing within the district.

According to the statement, the senator rejected claims that his electoral success in the 2023 general election was solely dependent on the influence of the late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

“Our attention has been drawn to a commentary circulating in the media declaring that the political career of Senator Olajide Ipinsagba is over following the recent APC primary,” the statement said.

It added that such assertions disregard the support received from voters across the six local government areas that make up Ondo North Senatorial District, namely Owo, Ose, Akoko North-East, Akoko North-West, Akoko South-East, and Akoko South-West.

The statement noted that while the senator acknowledged the support he received from the late Governor Akeredolu, his mandate was ultimately given by the people through the democratic process.

Highlights Legislative Achievements

Ipinsagba's camp also pointed to several initiatives undertaken since he assumed office in June 2023, including efforts to facilitate rural road projects, improve healthcare access, provide educational support to students, and maintain regular engagement with constituents.

According to the statement, reducing the senator’s political relevance to local influence in a particular area ignores the contributions of grassroots supporters, youth groups, women leaders, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders who have worked with his office.

The statement further maintained that the senator has leveraged his relationships within the National Assembly and the executive arm of government to attract federal projects and development opportunities to Ondo North.

It added that he has sustained direct communication with constituents through town hall meetings, constituency office engagements, and project monitoring activities.

Awaits Official APC Results

While addressing the ongoing debate surrounding the APC primary, the statement stressed that the official results of the exercise have not yet been released by the party's national leadership.

“Senator Ipinsagba’s service to Ondo North did not begin in 2023, and it will not end with one primary, the result of which is yet to be made public,” the statement noted.

The senator reiterated his commitment to development, youth empowerment, and effective representation, describing underdevelopment as the major challenge confronting the district.

He also thanked residents of Ondo North for their continued support and confidence in his leadership, assuring them that he would remain committed to serving the people regardless of political developments.

The APC is expected to officially announce the outcome of the senatorial primary in the coming days.
