ADELEKE DEFIES POLICE ORDER, LAUNCHES IMOLE CANVASSERS GROUP AMID SECURITY TENSION IN OSUN


Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday proceeded with the launch of the Imole Canvassers’ Group in Ijebu-Jesa, Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, despite a directive from the state police command advising the suspension of all political gatherings in the area over security concerns.

The event, organised by the Accord Party candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi, went ahead as planned, attracting a large crowd of supporters and political stakeholders.

According to reports, the police command had earlier issued a statement warning political parties, candidates, and supporters to suspend rallies, campaigns, and processions scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in Oriade Local Government Area. The advisory cited credible intelligence and failed peace talks aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In the statement issued through the command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, the police noted that attempts to mediate between political stakeholders had collapsed, leading to the decision to restrict political activities in the area as a precautionary measure.

The command said the move was necessary to maintain public order and protect lives and property, stressing that the decision followed unresolved disagreements between concerned parties.

Despite the advisory, the governor reportedly attended the event where the Imole Canvassers’ Group was officially launched. Organisers described the group as a 10,000-member mobilisation structure tasked with promoting the governor’s governance agenda across Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency and the wider Osun East Senatorial District.

The development comes amid heightened political activity in Osun State as stakeholders position ahead of the upcoming governorship election, with concerns over rising tensions in some local government areas.

Authorities have not yet announced any enforcement action regarding the alleged breach of the police directive.
