OYO GOVERNMENT DEMOLISHES IBADAN BUILDING ALLEGEDLY USED FOR STORING ILLEGAL ARMS

The Oyo State Government has demolished a residential property in Ibadan allegedly linked to the storage of illegal arms and ammunition as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and tackle criminal activities across the state.

The demolition exercise was carried out on Tuesday at Gbenku area along Arubiewe Road, off Olodo Garage in Ibadan, following security investigations into suspected criminal operations connected to the property.

Reports indicate that the affected property consisted of a fenced compound containing a storey building alongside two bungalow structures.

According to state authorities, security operatives uncovered a suspected cache of arms and ammunition allegedly being stored inside the premises during an ongoing investigation.

Confirming the development, Oyo State Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Mojeed Mogbonjubola, said the demolition was executed on the directive of Governor Seyi Makinde as part of the administration’s commitment to addressing insecurity and dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.

The commissioner stated that the action reflects the government’s zero-tolerance approach toward properties being used to facilitate illegal activities capable of threatening public safety.

The latest demolition comes only days after the Oyo State Government ordered the destruction of another property reportedly linked to the abduction of the sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her twin children.

State officials say the government remains determined to intensify actions against criminal hideouts and structures allegedly connected to kidnapping, illegal weapons storage, and other security-related offences.

The development is part of broader security measures being implemented by the state government in collaboration with security agencies to curb rising criminal activities and protect residents across Oyo State.

Authorities have reiterated that any property found to be aiding criminal operations will face strict legal consequences in accordance with state security regulations.

Residents have also been urged to support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities within their communities to assist ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining peace and public safety.

The Oyo State Government has repeatedly maintained that strengthening internal security remains a priority as authorities continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations across the state.
