AKWA IBOM GOVERNMENT AIDE LOSES APPOINTMENT OVER SOCIAL MEDIA POST ON TINUBU


A media aide attached to the Office of the Political Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has been relieved of his appointment following a social media post that reportedly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration and suggested that the President should resign over the nation's challenges.

The aide, Osborne Ubong Okon, was dismissed on Tuesday through a letter signed by the Political Adviser to the Governor, Godwin Ntuk Udeh.

According to the termination letter, the decision was based on allegations of actions considered inconsistent with the expectations of the office. The letter specifically referenced "actions bordering on disloyalty" and the need to maintain the integrity of the Office of the Political Adviser.

The letter stated that the termination took effect immediately.

“Following actions bordering on disloyalty and considering the necessity to always keep the Office of the Political Adviser purified, it has become compelling that you Mr Osborne Ubong Okon be and is hereby relieved of your engagement as a Media Aide to the Political Adviser to His Excellency the Governor, with immediate effect and from today 2nd June 2026,” the letter read.

The development has generated reactions on social media, with discussions centering on political communication, freedom of expression, and the responsibilities of public officials and political appointees.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Governor Umo Eno’s office nor Osborne Okon had publicly issued additional statements regarding the dismissal beyond the contents of the termination letter.
