APC IN OSUN IN CRISIS AS OMISORE LOYALISTS RESIGN IN LARGE NUMBERS


The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State is facing growing internal tensions following the mass resignation of loyalists aligned with former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

The development has raised concerns within party ranks ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, as efforts to reconcile aggrieved factions appear to have stalled.

It was recalled that Senator Omisore had contested the APC governorship primary alongside other aspirants, including Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, but was disqualified alongside several others. Since then, relations within the faction have reportedly remained strained, with unresolved demands for legislative ticket considerations contributing to dissatisfaction.

In the past week, more than five prominent members of the Omisore-aligned bloc reportedly resigned from the party. Those who left include Oladoyin Bamisayemi, former Commissioner for Education; Taiwo Akeju, Commissioner for Political Matters; Jamiu Olawumi, Special Adviser on Higher Education; and former lawmaker Adeyeye Olajide, among others.

The resignations have generated reactions within political circles and on social media, with some APC members expressing disappointment over the timing and nature of the defections, coming just months before the state governorship election.

A party member, Funso Fagbohungbe, criticized the resignation of Oladoyin Bamisayemi, describing his claims of internal neglect as unfounded, while defending the party’s treatment of former officeholders.

He noted that Bamisayemi had previously served as a two-term legislator and Commissioner for Education under former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, arguing that his public criticisms did not reflect the party’s internal record.

Meanwhile, the defecting figures have not officially announced their next political platform. However, reports suggest that some of them were recently observed around Accord Party campaign activities, fueling speculation about a possible alignment ahead of the 2026–2027 political cycle.

The APC in Osun State is yet to issue an official comprehensive statement on the latest wave of resignations.
