 FG INCREASES CONDITIONAL CASH GRANT FROM ₦10,000 TO ₦25,000 FOR VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS

The Federal Government has increased the value of its conditional cash grant programme for vulnerable Nigerians from ₦10,000 to ₦25,000 per payment cycle as part of efforts to strengthen social welfare support amid rising economic hardship across the country.

The development was disclosed by the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, Auwal Sankara, who said the adjustment is part of the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer Programme introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking with journalists in Dutse on Wednesday, Sankara revealed that a total of 154,412 vulnerable households have already been registered as beneficiaries of the programme across the 27 local government areas of Jigawa State.

According to him, the intervention is designed to support low-income families struggling with increasing food prices, transportation costs, and the overall rise in the cost of living nationwide.

He explained that beneficiaries are now entitled to receive ₦25,000 per payment cycle, following the Federal Government’s decision to review the previous ₦10,000 allocation upward in order to increase the programme’s impact.

Sankara stated that the distribution exercise began earlier in the year and is currently progressing through its second phase.

He noted that over 126,636 registered beneficiaries have already collected their payment cards, while authorities continue efforts to complete distribution to the remaining 27,776 households captured under the scheme.

The commissioner further explained that each beneficiary household will receive payments across three cycles, bringing the total amount each household can receive to ₦75,000.

According to him, although the amount may appear modest, the financial support is expected to significantly improve household welfare, nutrition, and the sustainability of small-scale businesses operating at the grassroots level.

He added that the programme could positively impact micro-businesses such as food vendors, tea sellers, and other small local traders whose businesses depend on relatively small capital for daily operations.

Sankara credited the smooth implementation of the initiative in Jigawa State to the support provided by Governor Umar Namadi, noting that the state government has actively supported programmes aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.

He said the intervention aligns with Governor Namadi’s development agenda and complements broader federal efforts to stimulate economic growth and strengthen the rural economy.

The commissioner also emphasized that the Renewed Hope Social Security Grant is one of several programmes introduced by the Federal Government to cushion the effects of economic hardship while improving livelihoods among vulnerable Nigerians.

He assured residents that collaboration between the Federal Government and Jigawa State Government would continue to ensure the successful implementation of programmes targeted at reducing poverty and improving living standards.

The announcement comes at a time when millions of Nigerians continue to face economic pressure caused by inflation, high transportation costs, and persistent increases in food prices across the country.
