FG TRYING TO STOP ME FROM CONTESTING 2027 ELECTION — PETER OBI ALLEGES

Former presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has alleged that certain forces within the Federal Government are making efforts to prevent him from participating in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.

Obi made the claim on Friday while speaking as a guest lecturer at a leadership programme organised by the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative at Madonna University, Okija, Anambra State.

According to the former Anambra State governor, there are ongoing moves aimed at ensuring he does not appear on the ballot ahead of the next presidential election, though he insisted that such challenges would not distract him from his political ambitions.

Obi said he remains focused on what he described as the larger goal of helping Nigeria achieve meaningful progress rather than allowing political obstacles to discourage him.

He stated that despite what he called attempts to block his path, he remains determined to continue his political journey.

The former governor also challenged other potential presidential contenders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to a public debate where candidates can openly present their plans and ideas for Nigeria’s future.

According to him, the purpose of such a debate would be to allow Nigerians evaluate those seeking leadership positions based on competence, vision, and policy direction.

Obi stressed that his interest in contesting the presidency is not driven by personal ambition or ethnic considerations but by what he described as a strong desire to see Nigeria function more effectively.

He encouraged young Nigerians and eligible voters across the country to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), emphasizing the importance of participating actively in the democratic process.

Speaking further, Obi said Nigerians should not vote for candidates based on ethnic identity but on qualifications and capacity to deliver good governance.

He added that his vision is to build a country where every citizen, regardless of background, has equal opportunities to succeed.

Addressing the country’s growing security concerns, Obi said insecurity remains a major challenge affecting all parts of Nigeria and pledged commitment toward building a safer and more stable nation.

The politician also linked many of Nigeria’s current challenges to what he described as a lack of commitment among leaders and the actions of certain forces working against national progress.

Reacting to a recent Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja, Kogi State, which reportedly set aside an earlier ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party, Obi maintained that the legal setback would not stop his political movement.

He insisted that democracy must be protected and expressed confidence that what he described as the will of the people would ultimately prevail.

Obi further urged Nigerians who desire change to remain peaceful while continuing to support democratic principles and national development.

The development comes amid growing political conversations and early alignments ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
