GUNMEN ABDUCT AKURE NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT STAFF IN ONDO COMMUNITY

Suspected gunmen have abducted a staff member of Akure North Local Government Area, Mr. Samson Gbenga Sanni, popularly known as "Timber," in Ilu-Abo Community of Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.

According to reports, the incident occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on Sunday when the assailants allegedly seized the victim in front of his residence in the Agbelere area of Ilu-Abo.

Community sources disclosed that the attackers, believed to be three in number, reportedly emerged from a nearby bush shortly after Sanni arrived home and forcefully whisked him away to an unknown destination.

The victim, said to be an indigene of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, had just returned home when the gunmen struck.

Sources further revealed that his wife and two children were inside the house during the incident and witnessed the abduction.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said security operatives had been deployed to the area to facilitate the victim's rescue and track down the perpetrators.

The police spokesperson noted that tactical teams of the command were already working on intelligence gathering and other operational measures aimed at securing the safe release of the abducted local government employee.

The incident has heightened concerns among residents of the community, with many calling for strengthened security measures to address the growing threat of kidnapping and other criminal activities in parts of the state.

As of the time of filing this report, no group had claimed responsibility for the abduction, while efforts by security agencies to rescue the victim were ongoing.
