NDC REJECTS FEDERAL HIGH COURT ORDER, VOWS LEGAL BATTLE OVER PARTY DISPUTE


The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly rejected a recent order issued by the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, describing the ruling as legally flawed and a threat to Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system.

In a statement released on Friday, a senior party leader identified as HSD said the court order came as a shock to party leaders, officials, candidates, and supporters, arguing that the decision lacks legal merit and appears aimed at undermining the credibility and progress recorded by the political party in recent months.

According to the statement, the party considers the order illegal and believes it represents an attempt to narrow democratic participation and suppress political competition in Nigeria.

The NDC leadership stated that it has already assembled a legal team to challenge the ruling and take immediate judicial steps aimed at setting aside the order.

Party supporters and candidates were urged to remain calm and continue their political activities while the legal process unfolds.

The statement noted that the development represents what the party described as its “first major test of resilience,” adding that its leadership remains confident that the situation will be resolved in its favour.

The NDC further claimed that the legal challenge was initiated by an association that is allegedly not registered as a political party and therefore lacks legal standing over matters relating to the party’s logo or registration status.

According to the party, the association was neither among groups that applied for political party registration in 2025 nor among organizations reportedly shortlisted during the registration process.

The leadership argued that the latest development may be linked to concerns from certain interests unsettled by what it described as the party’s rapid growth and increasing national support within a short period.

Despite the court ruling, the party said it remains determined to continue its political activities and pursue all available legal options to overturn what it termed a judicial anomaly.

The statement also criticized the court decision, alleging that legal errors were made in the process and insisting that the judiciary would eventually correct the situation through appropriate legal channels.

The party leadership encouraged supporters, candidates, and voters nationwide to remain steadfast, maintaining that the latest challenge demonstrates the growing political relevance of the organization.

According to the statement, the party has continued to receive fresh support nationwide, with thousands of Nigerians reportedly registering in solidarity following the court development.

Political observers say the case may attract wider national attention as legal proceedings unfold, particularly given ongoing conversations around political pluralism, party registration processes, and the future of multi-party democracy in Nigeria.

The NDC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to expanding democratic participation and said it remains focused on its long-term political objectives despite the legal challenge.
