POLICE RECOVER PISTOL HIDDEN INSIDE LOAF OF BREAD DURING STOP-AND-SEARCH IN RIVERS


Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have recovered a pistol allegedly concealed inside a loaf of bread during a routine stop-and-search operation carried out in Port Harcourt.

The discovery was made along Azikiwe Road near Red Cross Junction, where police officers intercepted a vehicle during a security operation aimed at curbing the movement of illegal weapons and criminal activities within the state.

According to the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, officers conducting the operation found a Browning pistol carefully hidden inside a loaf of bread during a search of the vehicle.

Police immediately arrested the suspect identified as Braya Nanas, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, in connection with the recovery.

Authorities disclosed that preliminary examination of the firearm revealed that the pistol had no visible serial number, raising concerns among investigators regarding its origin and possible intended use.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the firearm and told investigators that he allegedly purchased the weapon in Okrika for ₦800,000.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adepoju, said the incident highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods being adopted by criminal elements attempting to evade law enforcement.

He stated that security agencies remain vigilant and committed to intensifying operations aimed at intercepting illegal firearms and dismantling criminal networks operating within the state.

The police command reiterated its commitment to strengthening security measures across Rivers State and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.

Security analysts say the incident underscores growing concerns over illegal arms circulation and the need for sustained intelligence-driven operations to curb insecurity in the Niger Delta region and other parts of Nigeria.
