CHAOS IN IJEBU-JESA AS STAGE COLLAPSES DURING ADEMOLA ADELEKE SUPPORT EVENT
Panic erupted on Wednesday in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State, after a stage collapsed during a political gathering where Governor Ademola Adeleke and other dignitaries were seated, causing momentary confusion and disruption at the event.
The incident occurred during the launch of the “Imole Canvassers,” a mobilisation group reportedly set up to promote the governor’s governance message across Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency and the wider Osun East Senatorial District.
The event, organised by Accord Party candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi, was said to have attracted thousands of participants, with organisers estimating about 10,000 canvassers in attendance.
Eyewitness accounts and video footage from the scene showed that the stage structure gave way shortly after Governor Adeleke stood up to address the crowd. The collapse triggered panic among attendees as people rushed to safety, though there were no immediate reports of fatalities.
Details on the number of injured persons, if any, had not been officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Organisers have yet to issue a detailed statement on the cause of the structural failure, while the situation was brought under control shortly after the incident.
The event was temporarily disrupted following the collapse, with security and emergency personnel helping to restore order at the venue.
