CULT VIOLENCE IN ILORIN LEAVES FOUR DEAD, POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTS


Four people have been confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries following a violent clash linked to suspected cult activity in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

The incident occurred on Sunday night around 9:00 p.m. in the Post Office area of the city, after armed assailants reportedly stormed a bamboo bar located near the railway line and opened fire on individuals gathered at the location before fleeing the scene.

The Kwara State Police Command confirmed the development on Monday, stating that officers responded immediately after receiving distress reports and moved victims to a police medical facility for urgent treatment.

According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, four victims were pronounced dead by medical personnel, while two others remain under medical care.

She explained that preliminary findings from investigators indicate the attack was connected to cult-related activities, adding that security operatives have already arrested two suspects believed to be members of a notorious cult group allegedly involved in the attack.

The spokesperson said the arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with information expected to help authorities identify and apprehend other individuals connected to the incident.

Police authorities also disclosed that tactical teams, intelligence operatives, and covert security units have been deployed across relevant areas to track down all remaining suspects linked to the deadly attack.

The command assured residents that efforts are ongoing to ensure everyone involved is arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, condemned the attack, describing it as a serious threat to public safety and peace within the state.

He stressed that law enforcement authorities would not relent until every person responsible for the violence is brought to justice.

The police command also extended condolences to families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured victims a quick recovery.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that may assist ongoing investigations as authorities intensify efforts to prevent further violence in the area.
