FCT POLICE RESCUE FIVE ABDUCTED RESIDENTS IN ABUJA, NEUTRALISE TWO SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS IN JOINT OPERATION


Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have successfully rescued five kidnapped residents of Paze community in the Byazhin area of Bwari, Abuja, following a coordinated clearance operation that also led to the killing of two suspected kidnappers.

The rescue mission, which was carried out on Tuesday, involved a joint security team comprising police operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters, acting on recent kidnapping incidents recorded in the area.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the FCT Police Command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the operation was personally led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, alongside operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Intelligence Response Team, and Kubwa Area Command.

The team reportedly launched an intensive search and clearance operation around Paze and neighbouring communities at about 9:00 p.m., engaging suspected kidnappers in a gun duel.

During the encounter, two suspects were neutralised, while two others identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman were arrested. Several other members of the criminal gang reportedly escaped into nearby hills with gunshot injuries.

Authorities confirmed that two AK-47 rifles with magazines were recovered from the suspects during the operation.

The sustained pressure from security operatives forced the kidnappers to abandon their hostages, leading to the rescue of five victims who were found unharmed. The victims have since been taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment, while arrangements are underway to reunite them with their families.

The police further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to track and arrest fleeing suspects, with search operations extended to adjoining communities.

The Command also called on hospitals and medical practitioners within and outside the area to report individuals presenting with gunshot-related injuries, noting that some fleeing suspects may be seeking treatment in secrecy.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crime in the FCT, CP Ahmed Sanusi commended the operatives and supporting local security volunteers for their role in the successful rescue mission.

The operation comes days after an earlier attack in the same axis, during which armed men abducted four residents and killed a vigilante member, underscoring ongoing security concerns in parts of Bwari Area Council.
