FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC ILE-OLUJI BANS STUDENTS’ EXCURSIONS OUTSIDE TOWN OVER SECURITY THREATS


The management of Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji in Ondo State has placed an immediate restriction on all student academic excursions and field trips outside Ile-Oluji community, citing rising security concerns across Nigeria.

The development followed an emergency meeting of the institution’s Academic Board held on Monday, June 8, 2026, where members reviewed requests from students seeking approval for educational trips and considered the broader security situation affecting movement across parts of the country.

According to an internal directive issued through the Division of Academic Affairs, the institution resolved that students will no longer be permitted to embark on academic excursions outside Ile-Oluji until further notice as part of efforts aimed at safeguarding lives and preventing unnecessary exposure to security risks.

Despite the restriction, the management clarified that departments can still organize educational visits and practical learning activities within Ile-Oluji and surrounding approved locations inside the town. Suggested locations for such academic exposure reportedly include local industries such as cocoa processing facilities and other relevant establishments considered safe for students.

The institution also instructed all Heads of Departments to immediately communicate the new directive to students across their various departments and ensure strict compliance with the new policy.

Management warned that any student or group found participating in unauthorized academic excursions outside the town without official approval from the institution would be regarded as violating school regulations and may face disciplinary action.

The circular was signed by Dr. Oliyemi B. Adebiyi on behalf of the Division of Academic Affairs and distributed to principal officers of the institution, including the Rector, Deputy Rector, Registrar, Polytechnic Librarian, Deans, Heads of Departments, Dean of Student Affairs, and leadership of the Students’ Union Government.

The decision is expected to impact departments already planning educational trips outside the institution, as the polytechnic moves to prioritize student safety amid ongoing security challenges in different parts of the country.
