FUOYE CRACKS DOWN ON ALLEGED CAMPUS EXTORTION, SUSPENDS TOP OFFICIALS AND SUG PRESIDENT


The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended three individuals, including a director, a deputy dean, and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, following allegations of student extortion as part of the institution’s ongoing anti-corruption drive.

According to information made available by the university management, the affected individuals are currently under investigation over claims that they were involved in activities linked to the unlawful collection of money from students, an act said to be contrary to the institution’s ethical standards and operational guidelines.

The university disclosed that the decision forms part of a broader effort to strengthen transparency, accountability, and discipline within the institution while protecting students from any form of exploitation.

Among those suspended is the SUG President, James Iyanuoluwa Adio, whose alleged involvement has sparked reactions among members of the university community. School authorities stated that the suspensions are temporary measures pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into the allegations.

FUOYE management reiterated its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against corruption and warned that any member of staff or student leader found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary actions in line with the university’s regulations.

The development has drawn attention within the academic community, with many observers viewing the move as a strong signal that the university is intensifying efforts to address unethical practices affecting students.

University officials further encouraged students to report any incidents of harassment, extortion, or abuse of authority, assuring that all complaints would be treated confidentially and investigated thoroughly.

The latest action underscores growing efforts by higher institutions across Nigeria to tackle corruption-related issues and create a safer, more accountable learning environment for students.
