PANIC IN AKURE AS SOME SCHOOLS RELEASE PUPILS AMID RISING SECURITY FEARS


There was anxiety in parts of Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Wednesday as some schools reportedly asked pupils and students to return home following circulating security concerns within the city.

Opima RealNews gathered that pupils of Ubay International School, Owode, Akure, were seen leaving the school premises in groups after school authorities reportedly directed them to go home.

Some of the pupils who spoke with our correspondent said they were informed of security concerns in the area, prompting the decision by school management to suspend activities for the day.

Reports also indicated that at least one other school in the metropolis took a similar precautionary measure, with students observed departing school premises earlier than usual.

The development followed the circulation of unverified information alleging the presence of armed bandits around the St. Louis area of Akure, a claim that generated concern among parents and residents.

However, St. Louis Grammar School, Akure, has reportedly dismissed the rumour, stating that no such incident occurred within or around the school environment. The institution urged the public to disregard false information capable of creating unnecessary panic.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from security agencies regarding any bandit attack or security breach in the affected areas.

Parents and guardians have nevertheless expressed concern over the situation, with many calling on relevant authorities to provide timely updates and strengthen security measures around schools to prevent panic and ensure the safety of students.

Security agencies are expected to continue monitoring the situation, while residents have been advised to rely on information from credible and official sources and avoid spreading unverified reports.
