INSTAGRAM HIT BY GLOBAL OUTAGE AS THOUSANDS REPORT LOGIN AND SERVER ERRORS

Instagram, the popular photo and video-sharing platform owned by Meta, experienced a widespread global outage on Tuesday night, leaving thousands of users unable to access their accounts and raising concerns among users worldwide.

Reports of the disruption began surfacing late Tuesday, with users across several countries complaining about difficulties logging into the platform, sudden account access failures, and repeated server error notifications while attempting to use the application.

Data from online outage monitoring platform Downdetector showed a sharp increase in complaints beginning around 10:10 p.m. Nigerian time, with more than 8,000 reports logged within a short period. Many affected users encountered “5xx Server Error” messages, a technical indicator that typically points to server-side infrastructure problems.

In the United States, reports of the outage reportedly began earlier in the evening, with thousands of users saying they were unable to refresh feeds, log into their accounts, or access Instagram’s core features through both the mobile application and web version.

As the disruption spread, many frustrated users turned to X, formerly Twitter, to confirm whether the issue was widespread. Several users expressed concern over what they described as repeated service interruptions affecting Meta’s platforms in recent weeks.

Some users noted that Instagram has experienced multiple outages within the past month, triggering renewed criticism over service reliability and platform stability.

As of the time of reporting, Meta had not issued any official statement explaining the cause of the outage or when full service restoration would be completed.

The latest disruption comes barely a week after both Facebook and Instagram suffered another major outage that temporarily locked millions of users out of their accounts globally. During that incident, Facebook’s website, Messenger service, and mobile applications were also affected, with users unexpectedly logged out and unable to regain immediate access.

Industry observers say recurring outages on major social media platforms continue to raise concerns over digital infrastructure resilience, especially as millions of businesses, creators, and advertisers increasingly rely on these platforms for communication and daily operations.

Users are expected to monitor official Meta channels for updates as engineers work to resolve the issue.
