AIYEDATIWA APPOINTS BODE SUNMONU, EMMANUEL OMOMOWO TO LEAD OLOKOLA FREE TRADE ZONE REVIEW COMMITTEE

The Ondo State Government has inaugurated a technical committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the Olokola Free Trade Zone (OKFTZ) project, as part of efforts to address pending legal, administrative, and operational matters surrounding the long-standing economic development initiative.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa approved the constitution of the committee on Monday, signaling a renewed push by the state government to reassess the future of the project and determine the most strategic path forward.

According to an official statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the newly constituted committee will be chaired by Chief Bode Sunmonu, while Mr. Emmanuel Omomowo, Chief Executive Officer of the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA), has been appointed as Secretary.

Other members of the committee include Barrister Yinka Orokoto, Mr. Sola Adebisi, Mr. Idowu Ojo, who serves as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, and Engr. Femi Akarakiri, Director at ONDIPA.

The state government said the committee has been mandated to carry out an extensive review of all existing legal frameworks, administrative structures, and operational concerns relating to the Olokola Free Trade Zone project.

Part of the committee’s assignment will involve evaluating stakeholder interests connected to the project, verifying land ownership and documentation, addressing community-related concerns, and strengthening inter-state coordination where necessary.

In addition, the committee will examine any outstanding issues affecting the implementation and future viability of the project, while making recommendations that will guide the state government on the next course of action.

The Olokola Free Trade Zone project has long been viewed as a major economic initiative with the potential to attract large-scale industrial investment, boost employment opportunities, and drive economic growth in Ondo State and the wider region.

By setting up the technical committee, the Ondo State Government is expected to gain a clearer framework for resolving lingering concerns and repositioning the project for future development.

The latest move reflects Governor Aiyedatiwa’s broader commitment to strengthening investment opportunities and accelerating economic development initiatives within the state.
