AIYEDATIWA APPOINTS PROF. TOMOLA OBAMUYI AS NEW AAUA VICE-CHANCELLOR


Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has officially approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), marking a new leadership transition for one of the state’s leading higher institutions.

The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council in line with the provisions of the institution’s governing laws and established regulations.

According to details released by the Ondo State Government on Friday, Professor Obamuyi emerged as the top candidate after a competitive selection process involving 15 applicants who were screened and interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the university.

The Governing Council, chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi, subsequently forwarded his name for final approval by Governor Aiyedatiwa.

Professor Obamuyi, a respected scholar in Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige, whose tenure comes to an end after years of service to the institution.

Over the years, Professor Obamuyi has built a strong academic profile, holding several leadership and administrative positions within Nigeria’s higher education sector. He previously served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at Adekunle Ajasin University and also became the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

His academic contributions have also received international recognition. In 2015, he was honored with the “Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa” award by the Africa Education Leadership Awards held in Mauritius.

Beyond Nigeria, Professor Obamuyi has participated actively in academic development across the continent and globally. He has served as a member of the National Universities Commission accreditation teams and also worked as Chairperson and Subject Expert on the Review Panel for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.

He has equally presented academic papers at conferences in several countries including the United Kingdom, Finland, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, and the United States.

Governor Aiyedatiwa, while congratulating the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, expressed confidence in his capacity to strengthen the university’s achievements and drive further progress in academic excellence, research development, and institutional growth.

The governor urged Professor Obamuyi to uphold the institution’s values while promoting peace, innovation, and productive collaboration among staff, students, and stakeholders.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Ondo State Government to continue supporting Adekunle Ajasin University in maintaining its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned universities.

The appointment signals another major development in Ondo State’s efforts to strengthen its education sector and improve leadership within public tertiary institutions.
