GOV ADELEKE APPOINTS MAMA BOVAS AS NEW UNIOSUN CHANCELLOR

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has approved the appointment of renowned businesswoman Mrs Victoria Adunola Samson, widely known as Mama BOVAS, as the new Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Osogbo.

The appointment marks a new leadership chapter for the institution following the completion of the tenure of the immediate past Chancellor, Apostle Folorunso Alakija, who served the university for a decade from 2016 to 2026.

Mrs Samson, a respected entrepreneur and indigenous citizen of Iree in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, is the founder of BOVAS Oil and Gas Company, one of Nigeria’s notable indigenous petroleum marketing companies.

Over the years, she has built the company from a single filling station into a major business enterprise with over 200 retail outlets nationwide and a workforce of more than 2,000 employees, earning recognition for her role in Nigeria’s private sector growth.

Industry records show that Mrs Samson made history in 1990 after becoming the first Nigerian to win the prestigious Texaco Latin America and West Africa (LAWA) Best Overall Dealer Award, further establishing her reputation as one of the country’s leading figures in the petroleum sector.

Governor Adeleke, while announcing the appointment, described Mama BOVAS as a woman whose life and business journey reflect values of integrity, excellence, honesty, and commitment to societal development.

According to the governor, her appointment reflects the state government’s commitment to recognizing individuals whose contributions to national growth and enterprise development have remained impactful over the years.

The governor praised her dedication to business ethics and nation-building, noting that her achievements continue to serve as inspiration to many Nigerians, particularly young entrepreneurs seeking to build sustainable enterprises.

Mrs Samson becomes the third Chancellor of Osun State University, succeeding Apostle Folorunso Alakija, whose tenure was widely acknowledged for significant contributions to the institution’s growth.

The Osun State Government had earlier appreciated the outgoing Chancellor for her service to the university, particularly highlighting the donation of the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital, a major project that contributed to the institution’s development.

Observers say the appointment of Mrs Samson is expected to further strengthen the university’s leadership structure while reinforcing the institution’s connection with private sector excellence and educational advancement in Osun State.
