GOV MAKINDE IMPOSES 16-HOUR CURFEW ACROSS 10 OYO LGAs OVER SECURITY CONCERNS


Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a 16-hour daily curfew across 10 local government areas in the state, following emerging security concerns around the Old Oyo National Park axis.

According to the announcement, the curfew will run daily from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., beginning Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will remain in effect for an initial period of 48 hours as authorities monitor the situation and review security developments in the affected areas.

The directive applies to local government areas bordering or located around the Old Oyo National Park, including Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba.

State authorities have not provided further operational details at the time of the announcement, but the curfew is understood to be part of coordinated efforts to strengthen security presence and restrict movement during high-risk hours within the affected communities.

Residents in the listed areas are expected to comply with the directive as security agencies intensify surveillance and enforcement operations throughout the duration of the curfew. Government officials are also expected to continue monitoring developments to determine whether the restriction will be extended or adjusted after the initial 48-hour period.

The measure comes amid ongoing efforts by the Oyo State Government to address security challenges in border and forest-adjacent communities, particularly around the Old Oyo National Park corridor, which has in recent times experienced heightened security attention.

Authorities have urged calm and cooperation from residents, noting that the restriction is temporary and aimed at safeguarding lives and property while security operations are ongoing.
