JIMOH IBRAHIM EMERGES CHAIRMAN OF UN BUDGET AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE

Senator and diplomat, Amb. Jimoh Ibrahim CFR, has expressed appreciation following his election as Chairman of the United Nations Committee on Budget and Administration, also known as the Fifth Committee.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Ibrahim described his emergence as a great honour and pledged to contribute meaningfully to the financial and administrative responsibilities of the United Nations.

The lawmaker thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his leadership and mentorship, noting that the administration’s reform-driven approach would influence his responsibilities at the global body.

“It is indeed an honour for me to be elected as the Chairman of the Budget and Administration of the United Nations today, June 2, 2026,” he stated.

“Let me express my profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Mr President, as your student in the reforms class, be assured that those teaching slides will reflect in the budget, appropriations, and human resources of the United Nations.”

Ibrahim also appreciated Nigerians for what he described as a historic achievement, while assuring member states of his commitment to effective leadership during a challenging global period.

“I thank the good people of Nigeria for this historic achievement. I assured my colleagues from the 193 member states that at this challenging time in history, it is my responsibility to provide strategy in chaotic situations,” he added.

The Fifth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly is responsible for administrative and budgetary matters, including oversight of the organisation’s financial and human resource operations.

Observers say Ibrahim’s emergence into the strategic position further highlights Nigeria’s growing participation in international diplomacy and multilateral affairs
