LAGOS GOVERNMENT SEALS CHURCH, 11 OTHER ESTABLISHMENTS

The Lagos State Government has shut down 12 establishments across different parts of the state, including a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Surulere, over multiple environmental violations ranging from noise pollution to failure to comply with regulatory directives.

The enforcement exercise was carried out on Monday, June 15, 2026, by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in collaboration with the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen environmental law enforcement across the state.

According to state authorities, the affected businesses and facilities were sealed after repeatedly ignoring warnings and abatement notices issued by regulatory officials.

Among the establishments affected was a Cherubim and Seraphim Church located on Olumuyiwa Jacobs Street in Aguda, Surulere, which was shut down over allegations of excessive noise pollution.

Also sealed during the operation was Westgate Arena Club located at Apostolic Church Close, Olowora, over persistent noise pollution complaints. Golden Click Hotel situated on Cados Road, Baruwa, was shut down for failing to comply with environmental directives previously issued by the agency.

Authorities also closed 14:02 Lounge and Bar located on Command Road near Aralamo Bus Stop in Ipaja following complaints linked to noise pollution.

Kilo Hotel on Adeniyi Adefioye Street in Kilo, Surulere, was sealed for failing to comply with environmental regulations, while Max Lounge on Bode Thomas Street in Surulere was shut down over both noise and air pollution concerns.

The Hotel Macs, located on Enitan Street in Aguda, Surulere, was also affected after authorities cited non-compliance with regulatory requirements.

Other establishments sealed during the exercise include Hotel Bel Am on Agbebi Street in Ijesha, which was shut down over noise pollution, and Fecomillion Hotel on Salami Bashorun Street in Ijesha, Surulere, over environmental violations.

PetroSafe Gas Station on Ijesha Road was also closed after officials accused the facility of obstructing enforcement officers during the operation and failing to comply with agency directives.

Serena Hotel and Suites on Ashoge Street, off Cele Bus Stop in Surulere, was sealed over regulatory non-compliance, while CitiLounge on Mobe Street in Ishaga was shut down following reports of noise pollution violations.

Another business identified as Gariot, located on Ogunlana Drive, was also sealed after authorities alleged obstruction of officials and non-compliance with environmental enforcement measures.

LASEPA stated that the operation was carried out on the directive of the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, as part of the government’s broader strategy to address environmental disturbances and improve public safety.

The agency explained that the enforcement targeted establishments linked to excessive noise pollution, air pollution, obstruction of enforcement personnel, and repeated disregard for environmental regulations designed to protect residents.

Speaking on the exercise, LASEPA General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, said the agency would continue statewide enforcement efforts aimed at maintaining environmental standards and protecting public health.

He also urged residents, religious organizations, and business owners to comply with environmental laws and adopt practices that promote a cleaner and healthier environment throughout Lagos State.
