NANS ANNOUNCES REINSTATEMENT OF SUSPENDED FUOYE STUDENT UNION PRESIDENT


The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has confirmed the reinstatement of the suspended Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), James Adio, following engagements with the institution’s management.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde, through a post shared on social media platform X, where he revealed that the university had officially reversed the suspension placed on the student leader.

According to Babatunde, the development followed high-level discussions between NANS and FUOYE management over disciplinary actions earlier taken against some students of the institution.

“Finally, Comrade Adio, the FUOYE SUG President, has been officially reinstated,” the NANS president stated.

Earlier, the student body had disclosed that the university’s Senate was expected to review the suspension case and consider granting Adio fair treatment after a series of interventions aimed at resolving the issue.

NANS also stated that several other students who were previously suspended had equally been reinstated and permitted to participate in their ongoing examinations after the discussions with university authorities.

Before the reversal, James Adio had been suspended alongside two other students over allegations of financial irregularities reportedly linked to practical fees management within the institution.

The suspension had generated reactions from student groups, with NANS criticizing the disciplinary action and calling for a review of the decision.

The latest development is being seen as a major outcome of negotiations between the national student body and the university management, with stakeholders expressing hope that the resolution will help restore stability within the institution.

The case had attracted attention within Nigeria’s tertiary education sector, particularly among student leaders advocating for fairness and due process in disciplinary matters affecting student representatives.

The reinstatement now allows Adio to resume his position as FUOYE SUG President while continuing his academic activities without further interruption.
