 NECO ANNOUNCES SIX SUBJECTS FOR COMPUTER-BASED SSCE 2026, BEGINS SCHOOL FACILITY TESTING


The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially announced six subjects approved for Computer-Based Examination (CBE) mode in the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, marking another step toward expanding digital examination processes in Nigeria’s education sector.

According to an official memo dated June 23, 2026, and addressed to principals and commandants of secondary schools nationwide, the examination body confirmed that selected subjects will be administered through the computer-based format during the upcoming examination cycle.

NECO stated that a total of six subjects have been approved for the CBE format. The subjects include English Language, General Mathematics, Civic Education, Biology, Economics, and Agricultural Science.

For English Language, Paper II, III, and IV will be conducted through the digital format, while General Mathematics, Civic Education, Biology, Economics, and Agricultural Science will each have Paper II and III administered under the computer-based system.

The examination council clarified that only the multiple-choice and essay components of the listed subjects will be conducted through the CBE mode, while other practical or separate components will continue under existing examination procedures where applicable.

As part of preparations ahead of the examination, NECO also announced the commencement of technical testing of school facilities to assess readiness for the digital examination rollout.

According to the directive, technical officers assigned across various states are expected to begin visiting designated schools from June 24, 2026, to carry out auto testing of computer-based examination facilities.

School administrators, including principals and commandants, have been instructed to ensure full cooperation during the testing exercise and make necessary preparations to guarantee that facilities meet operational requirements ahead of the examination period.

The move reflects NECO’s continued efforts to integrate technology into examination administration while improving efficiency, transparency, and the overall conduct of national examinations across the country.
