ONDO POLICE ANNOUNCE RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT AHEAD OF ONDO SOUTH SENATORIAL BY-ELECTION


The Ondo State Police Command has announced a temporary restriction on human and vehicular movement across parts of the state ahead of the Ondo South Senatorial District By-Election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, said the movement restriction forms part of the command’s broader security strategy designed to maintain law and order, prevent electoral violence, and guarantee the safety of voters, election officials, and other stakeholders participating in the exercise.

According to the command, security personnel have been strategically deployed across the senatorial district, with officers expected to monitor compliance with electoral regulations and respond swiftly to any threat capable of disrupting the election.

The Police Command urged residents within affected areas to comply fully with the directive, noting that only individuals on essential duties, including electoral officials, accredited observers, emergency responders, and security personnel on authorized assignments, would be exempted during the restriction period.

CP Ohagwu reassured the public that the command remains fully prepared to protect lives and property before, during, and after the election while maintaining professionalism throughout the operation.

The Commissioner also appreciated Ondo State Governor, Hon. Dr. Orimisan Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his continued support in strengthening security operations across the state.

He further commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, PSC(+), NPM, for providing strategic leadership and operational guidance aimed at ensuring adequate security arrangements for electoral activities nationwide.

The Ondo State Police Command emphasized that all security arrangements have been finalized and assured residents that the Ondo South Senatorial By-Election would be conducted in an atmosphere of peace, safety, and public confidence.
