KUMUYI RULES OUT FAMILY SUCCESSION, SAYS DEEPER LIFE BELONGS TO CHRIST


The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, has stated that he will not hand over the leadership of the church to any of his biological children, emphasizing that the ministry belongs to Jesus Christ and not to any individual or family.

Kumuyi made the remarks while addressing speculations about the future leadership of the church during a recent church service. The comments came amid growing discussions on social media regarding whether one of his sons could eventually succeed him as leader of the ministry.

Speaking to members of the congregation, the respected cleric said questions had been raised about whether he would choose one of his children to take over the church after his tenure. He, however, firmly rejected the idea, stressing that the church is not a personal enterprise that can be inherited by family members.

According to him, the Deeper Christian Life Ministry remains the church of Jesus Christ and should be led according to God's direction rather than family lineage.

Kumuyi explained that the ministry was founded on biblical principles and that leadership decisions must align with scriptural standards and divine guidance.

He noted that throughout the history of the early Christian church, prominent apostles did not pass church leadership to their children. He cited biblical figures such as Peter, Paul, and John as examples of leaders who did not treat the church as a family possession.

The veteran preacher said the church belongs solely to Christ, referencing the biblical declaration that Jesus would build His church.

His comments have generated reactions across social media platforms, with many Nigerians discussing issues surrounding succession planning and leadership transitions within religious organizations.

Deeper Christian Life Ministry is one of Nigeria's largest Pentecostal churches, with branches across the country and in several nations around the world. Founded by Kumuyi in 1973, the ministry has grown into a global evangelical movement known for its emphasis on holiness, biblical teaching, and evangelism.

The cleric's statement is being viewed by many observers as a clear indication that future leadership of the church will not be determined by family ties but by the processes and structures established within the ministry and guided by its spiritual principles.
