ONDO GOVERNMENT DISMISSES KIDNAPPING RUMOURS IN AKURE SCHOOLS, ASSURES RESIDENTS OF SAFETY



The Ondo State Government has debunked reports circulating on social media and messaging platforms alleging that a kidnapping incident occurred in a school within Akure, the state capital.


In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Ondo State, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, described the reports as false and misleading, assuring residents that no kidnapping incident had been recorded in any school across Akure.


According to the government, there is no official record, report, or verified case of kidnapping involving any primary, secondary, or tertiary institution within the metropolis. Authorities stated that schools in Akure remain open and are carrying out academic activities without disruption.


The statement further disclosed that security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Amotekun Corps, and the Department of State Services (DSS), have conducted assessments of school environments across the city and confirmed that normalcy prevails.


The government noted that it continues to work closely with school authorities, parents, and security agencies to maintain strict safety measures aimed at protecting pupils, students, and teachers.


Reacting to the spread of the rumours, the state government urged residents, particularly parents and guardians, to avoid sharing unverified information capable of causing unnecessary fear and panic among the public.


It reiterated that the safety and welfare of schoolchildren remain a top priority of the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, adding that residents should report any genuine security concerns directly to the nearest Police or Amotekun office for prompt attention.


The clarification comes amid concerns generated by reports that led some parents and schools to take precautionary measures earlier in the day.


The Ondo State Government maintained that security agencies remain vigilant and that there is no cause for alarm regarding the safety of schools in Akure.
