ONDO POLICE DISMISS SCHOOL CLOSURE RUMOURS IN ODIGBO, ASSURE RESIDENTS OF SAFETY

The Ondo State Police Command has reassured residents of Odigbo Local Government Area and the wider public that there is no security threat or incident warranting panic within the area.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command clarified that no breach of security, terrorist activity, or credible threat capable of disrupting public peace has been recorded in Odigbo or neighbouring communities.

According to the statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command’s intelligence reports and ongoing security assessments indicate that the security situation in the area remains stable.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical units, and intelligence operatives to intensify surveillance and visibility policing across the state. The directive covers schools, public institutions, critical infrastructure, and other vulnerable locations as part of preventive security measures.

The Police Command urged residents, parents, students, and members of the public to remain calm and continue their normal activities without fear.

“The security architecture within Odigbo Local Government Area and across the State remains robust and effective,” the statement noted, adding that security agencies are actively monitoring developments and responding proactively to any emerging concerns.

The Command also warned against the spread of misinformation and unverified reports, stressing that false information could create unnecessary anxiety and undermine public confidence.

Residents were advised to rely only on information released through official communication channels and avoid circulating rumours capable of causing panic.

CP Ohagwu further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, emphasizing that maintaining security is a collective responsibility.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while working with relevant stakeholders to sustain peace and public safety across the state.
