The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming Ondo South Senatorial District bye-election, Professor Dayo Faduyile, OON, has pledged to sustain and build on the achievements of Ambassador and former Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR, assuring residents of continued development and quality representation if elected.

Professor Faduyile made the commitment during a courtesy visit by members of the Ondo South Advancement & Welfare Consultative Association (OSAWA), who visited him to congratulate him on his emergence as the APC candidate ahead of the bye-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The delegation, led by OSAWA President Ade-Aworetan Oluwajuwon, met with the APC flagbearer to discuss campaign strategies and ways to secure a strong victory at the polls.

The senatorial seat became vacant following the distinguished service of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, CFR, who was recently appointed and confirmed as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary as well as Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

During the meeting, members of OSAWA emphasized their readiness to support the APC candidate, citing Professor Faduyile’s longstanding relationship with the association as a Life Member and member of its Advisory Council.

The association stressed the importance of extensive voter mobilization and sensitization across the six local government areas in Ondo South, noting the region’s history of strong electoral support for credible candidates.

Referencing previous election outcomes, the group recalled that during the 2023 Ondo South Senatorial election, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim secured over 110,000 votes, defeating his closest rival who polled 55,784 votes, while total votes cast stood at 175,784.

OSAWA leaders noted that although the upcoming election is a bye-election with limited opposition presence, there should be no room for complacency, urging the APC candidate to surpass the previous electoral benchmark through aggressive grassroots mobilization.

The group also requested an interactive engagement where Professor Faduyile would present his development plans and legislative agenda, enabling the association to properly communicate his vision to residents across the district.

As part of preparations, OSAWA announced plans to convene its Central Executive Council and Ward Representatives at its secretariat in Okitipupa Local Government Area, alongside other stakeholders, to strengthen support efforts ahead of the election.

Responding, Professor Faduyile expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as strategic and important at a crucial stage of the campaign.

He agreed with OSAWA’s position on the need for increased political mobilization, noting that campaign efforts had only reached approximately 20 percent capacity and that more support from influential organizations was necessary to drive wider voter participation.

Speaking on his vision for Ondo South, the APC candidate gave strong assurances that his administration would maintain continuity with the developmental efforts initiated by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.

According to him, he intends to carefully study ongoing projects and continue from where the former senator stopped, while introducing fresh initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the people.

Professor Faduyile highlighted youth and women empowerment as major priorities, promising to implement skills acquisition programmes and job creation initiatives capable of driving economic growth within the district.

He also emphasized plans for sustainable economic development, particularly by maximizing opportunities associated with Ondo State’s strategic coastal advantage as home to the longest shoreline in West Africa, much of which lies within Ondo South Senatorial District.

The APC candidate further promised broader participation in national development programmes and pledged to support efforts aimed at finally unlocking the long-anticipated bitumen development project in the region.

Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive representation, he assured supporters that he would work diligently to justify the confidence reposed in him by the APC and the people of Ondo South.

The meeting ended with renewed optimism as OSAWA reiterated its commitment to partnering with Professor Faduyile to secure victory at the polls and sustain progressive leadership across the senatorial district.
