OSUN APC, ADELEKE CAMP DISAGREE OVER COURT RULING ON ACCORD PARTY AHEAD OF GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION


A fresh political dispute has emerged in Osun State after the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign team clashed over the implications of a Federal High Court judgment involving the Accord Party ahead of the state’s August 15 governorship election.

The disagreement followed a recent Federal High Court ruling in Abuja concerning the deregistration of certain political parties, including the Accord Party, a development the Osun APC claims could affect Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of Media and Publicity Committee of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Remi Omowaiye, the opposition party argued that the court judgment has significant political consequences because Governor Adeleke is seeking re-election under the Accord Party platform.

According to the APC campaign council, unless the Federal High Court judgment is overturned by a superior court, Adeleke may face legal obstacles contesting in the forthcoming governorship election.

The APC also stated that the ruling could have wider implications for other candidates contesting elections on the Accord Party platform at both state and national legislative levels.

Omowaiye further noted that there are still unresolved legal disputes concerning leadership issues within the Accord Party at the national level, adding that the evolving legal situation may affect the party’s participation in future elections.

The party urged residents of Osun State to remain peaceful and attentive as developments continue ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15.

However, Governor Adeleke’s re-election campaign council dismissed the APC’s interpretation of the judgment, insisting that attempts to create political distractions ahead of the election have failed.

Responding on behalf of the governor’s campaign team, spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi said Governor Adeleke remains fully focused on his re-election campaign and is not distracted by what he described as politically motivated controversies.

According to the campaign spokesperson, the governor’s political strength and popularity among residents continue to unsettle opposition parties ahead of the election.

Olajengbesi argued that recent political developments, including defections by several influential figures to the Accord Party, demonstrate growing public support for Governor Adeleke’s administration.

He maintained that the governor’s campaign remains centered on governance performance, citing achievements in healthcare, education, infrastructure development, workers’ welfare, and economic management.

The campaign team further accused the opposition APC of attempting to shift attention away from governance issues by focusing on legal controversies instead of presenting alternative policies to voters.

According to Adeleke’s camp, the August 15 governorship election will ultimately be decided by the electorate and not by political propaganda or attempts to create unnecessary distractions.

The latest exchange highlights rising political tension in Osun State as political parties intensify preparations for what is expected to be a closely watched governorship contest in the coming weeks.

Legal developments surrounding political party registration and eligibility are expected to remain central issues as the election date approaches.
