OSUN POLICE ARREST THREE SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVER FIREARMS AND CHARMS IN CRACKDOWN


The Osun State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists and political thugs in separate operations, recovering firearms, ammunition, charms, and other dangerous weapons across different locations in the state.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan.

According to the statement, the suspects arrested include Adekola Olayinka Abdulazeez (27), Omolara Ezekiel (28), and Babatunde Azeez (32).

Items recovered from the suspects include three English Beretta pistols, one locally made cut-to-size gun, one live ammunition, two live cartridges, four cutlasses, three axes, and charms.

The police explained that the operation began on May 22, 2026, when a patrol team attached to the Ikirun Area Command intercepted one of the suspects during a routine stop-and-search operation. The suspect was reportedly found in possession of two Beretta pistols, an axe, and charms while riding an unregistered motorcycle.

The case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, where detectives reportedly uncovered additional links leading to the arrest of two other suspects.

During interrogation, one of the suspects allegedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity and claimed he was attempting to deliver the weapons to another associate before his arrest.

Further intelligence-led investigations led to the arrest of the additional suspects and the recovery of more weapons, including a cut-to-size gun, a Beretta pistol with live ammunition, cutlasses, axes, and cartridges. Police said searches conducted at their residences also yielded additional exhibits.

The police stated that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected criminal network.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, warned individuals involved in cultism, political violence, and other criminal activities to desist, stressing that the command will continue to intensify operations aimed at dismantling criminal groups across the state.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure sustained peace and security in Osun State.
