OSUN POLICE BEGIN STATEWIDE CRACKDOWN ON VEHICLES WITH FAKE, COVERED NUMBER PLATES

The Osun State Police Command has launched a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles and motorcycles using covered, defaced, fake, altered, or unregistered number plates as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve public safety across the state.

The operation, which officially commenced on Monday, follows a directive issued by the Inspector-General of Police aimed at curbing criminal activities often facilitated through the use of vehicles with concealed or fraudulent registration details.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the command explained that the exercise is designed to prevent criminals from exploiting vehicle anonymity to evade detection during unlawful operations.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across the state to immediately impound any vehicle found violating registration regulations and ensure detailed investigations are carried out.

The enforcement directive covers vehicles operating with covered number plates, fake registration numbers, altered plates, improperly issued plates, and any unauthorized vehicle registration details that do not comply with official standards.

The police command urged motorists, transport operators, commercial drivers, and fleet owners within the state to verify that all vehicles under their possession carry valid, government-approved, and clearly visible number plates at all times.

Authorities emphasized that the exercise is not intended to harass law-abiding citizens but rather to improve law enforcement’s ability to properly identify vehicles, investigate crimes efficiently, track criminal suspects, and strengthen the overall security framework within Osun State.

The command noted that improved vehicle identification remains an important part of security operations, particularly as security agencies continue efforts to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, and other criminal activities within the region.

Residents have been advised to cooperate fully with security operatives during the exercise and ensure compliance with all vehicle registration regulations to avoid sanctions or vehicle impoundment.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order while enhancing public safety through stricter enforcement of traffic and vehicle identification laws across the state.
