OYO DEPUTY GOVERNOR CONVENES EMERGENCY SECURITY MEETING OVER RISING SAFETY CONCERNS


The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal, has convened an emergency security meeting in Irepo Local Government Area as part of efforts by the state government to address growing security concerns affecting communities within the region.

The high-level security meeting, held at the Irepo Local Government Secretariat, brought together key government officials, security agencies, and local government chairmen from Oorelope, Irepo, and Olorunsogo Local Government Areas to review emerging threats and strengthen coordinated responses to safety challenges across the affected communities.

During the meeting, the council leaders extensively discussed security developments within their respective jurisdictions while reviewing intelligence reports and operational updates provided by various security agencies operating in the state.

Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Jacob Oluwale Ogundiran, Executive Chairman of Oorelope Local Government, expressed appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde and the Deputy Governor for the government’s intervention and commitment toward safeguarding lives and property.

He also called on the state government to consider recruiting additional vigilante personnel to complement existing security agencies and improve local security operations within vulnerable communities.

The council chairman further raised concerns over security issues affecting strategic routes connecting Igboho, Igbeti, and Kisi, while specific operational details discussed during the meeting were withheld for security reasons.

Also addressing participants, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Oyo State commended local government authorities for their continuous collaboration with security operatives and assured residents within the Old Irepo Federal Constituency that law enforcement agencies remain committed to maintaining peace and protecting communities.

According to the police authority, security agencies across the state will continue to strengthen cooperation and intelligence sharing to ensure effective monitoring and rapid response to potential threats.

Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal reaffirmed the Oyo State Government’s commitment to strengthening security architecture across affected local governments, assuring stakeholders that concrete steps are already underway to improve safety measures in vulnerable areas.

He stressed that community participation remains a critical part of successful security management, urging residents to actively support law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent criminal activities.

The emergency security meeting was attended by several top officials, including the Executive Assistant on Security to the Governor, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Divisional Police Officers from affected local governments, and representatives of major security organizations.

Other agencies represented at the meeting included the Department of State Services (DSS), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Operation Burst, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Immigration Service, and local vigilante groups.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by the Oyo State Government to strengthen internal security coordination and improve public safety across communities facing emerging security threats.
