PAY YOUR TAXES TO HELP BUILD MORE ROADS, TINUBU TELLS FCT RESIDENTS


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on residents and business owners in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to fulfill their tax obligations and pay ground rents, emphasizing that government revenue is essential for sustaining infrastructure development across Abuja.

The President made the appeal on Wednesday during the commissioning of the completed Arterial Road N5 connecting Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III in the Dape District of Abuja.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu said taxpayers’ contributions play a critical role in enabling the government to fund and complete vital infrastructure projects that improve transportation, boost economic activities, and enhance living conditions.

He urged residents and businesses benefiting from ongoing development projects to support the administration’s efforts through prompt payment of taxes, land charges, and other statutory obligations.

According to the President, compliance with these obligations provides the Federal Capital Territory Administration with the resources needed to execute additional road projects and expand infrastructure across the capital city.

Tinubu described the completion of Arterial Road N5 as another demonstration of his administration’s commitment to delivering projects from conception to completion under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He recalled that during the commissioning of an earlier section of the road in 2025, the government promised not to abandon the project midway, stressing that the current administration remains focused on completing inherited and newly initiated projects.

The President noted that the road, awarded in October 2024 and completed within schedule, reflects a renewed approach to public infrastructure delivery centered on efficiency and accountability.

He said the new corridor would improve connectivity among several communities, including Dape, Karmo, Gwarinpa, Kado, Mbora, and the Idu Industrial District.

According to him, the improved road network is expected to reduce transportation challenges, lower logistics costs for businesses, attract investments, and create employment opportunities.

Tinubu further highlighted the strategic importance of the project, noting that enhanced access to the Idu Industrial District could stimulate economic growth and support industrial expansion within the territory.

The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his team for driving infrastructure development and ensuring the completion of critical projects.

He praised the administration’s focus on tangible results, stating that public funds should translate into visible development and improved services for citizens.

Earlier, Wike said infrastructure delivery in the FCT has expanded significantly under the Tinubu administration, with a growing number of projects being commissioned annually.

According to the minister, project commissioning activities marking the administration’s anniversaries have increased steadily, reflecting the scale of development currently underway across Abuja.

He noted that government projects are no longer concentrated within the city centre alone, as satellite communities are increasingly benefiting from road construction and other infrastructure interventions.

Wike also addressed concerns regarding compensation for properties affected by project development, maintaining that all verified property owners impacted by demolitions received the appropriate compensation.

The commissioning of Arterial Road N5 formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration and its ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and economic opportunities within the Federal Capital Territory.
