POLICE FOIL ₦50 MILLION KIDNAP PLOT, ARREST TWO SUSPECTS TARGETING CHINESE NATIONAL IN OGUN


The Ogun State Police Command has successfully foiled a planned kidnapping of a Chinese national and arrested two suspects allegedly involved in a ₦50 million ransom scheme.

The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were arrested on June 9, 2026, following credible intelligence received by operatives of the Obalende Police Division regarding an imminent abduction along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway corridor.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Divisional Police Officer of Obalende Division swiftly mobilised surveillance and operational teams to the identified area after receiving intelligence about the planned crime.

The operation led to the interception and arrest of the suspects before the alleged kidnapping could be carried out.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly conspired to abduct a Chinese expatriate and demand a ransom of ₦50 million for the victim’s release.

Further findings showed that one of the suspects, Chinedu Onwuemena, allegedly worked within the victim's company as an interpreter and driver and was accused of using his position to facilitate the planned abduction.

The police also disclosed that the suspects were working with another accomplice who is currently on the run. Security operatives have launched efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover the full network behind the alleged criminal plot.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism, vigilance, and swift response of the operatives, noting that the success of the operation underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing in combating crime.

Ojajuni reassured residents, investors, and members of the business community of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to help prevent criminal activities and strengthen public safety.

The latest breakthrough is seen as a significant boost to ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle kidnapping and other security threats in Ogun State and across Nigeria.
