RISING SECURITY CONCERNS: ILE-OLUJI COMMUNITY TO EMPOWER LOCAL HUNTERS AGAINST EMERGING THREATS - COMR. IMOLEAYO AKINROSOTU


As security challenges continue to affect various parts of Nigeria, concerns are growing over the need for proactive measures to safeguard local communities before criminal activities escalate.

A community stakeholder, Imoleayo Steve Akinrosotu, has called on residents and leaders in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State, to take deliberate steps toward strengthening local security architecture, particularly through greater support for indigenous hunters who possess extensive knowledge of the area's forests and remote terrains.

In a statement made available to Opima RealNews, Akinrosotu noted that insecurity has become a major national concern and warned against waiting until criminal activities such as kidnapping become widespread within the community before taking action.

Drawing from a popular Yoruba proverb that emphasizes preparedness in the face of approaching danger, he stressed the importance of adopting preventive measures rather than reactive responses.

According to him, criminal groups often use forests and bushes as operational hideouts, making local knowledge of the terrain a critical asset in combating security threats. While acknowledging the efforts of conventional security agencies, including the Police, Military, and Amotekun Corps, he observed that local hunters possess unique familiarity with the forests, pathways, and difficult-to-access areas within the community.

He therefore advocated for increased investment in and support for local hunters, suggesting that their experience and understanding of the environment could significantly enhance community-based security efforts when properly coordinated with relevant authorities.

Akinrosotu emphasized that security should be viewed as a collective responsibility and urged stakeholders to work together to ensure the safety of residents and the protection of lives and property.

His remarks come amid growing discussions across several communities on the need for stronger local intelligence gathering and grassroots participation in addressing security challenges.
