TINUBU SWORN IN NEW POWER MINISTER, FOREIGN AFFAIRS MINISTER OF STATE AT PRESIDENTIAL VILLA


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday formally swore in two new members of the Federal Executive Council following Senate confirmation, marking a key reshuffle in the Federal Government’s cabinet.

The ceremony, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, saw Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe assume office as Minister of Power, while Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye was sworn in as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. The brief event was attended by senior government officials and spouses of the newly appointed ministers.

Their appointments follow recent resignations from the Federal Executive Council, after which President Tinubu nominated replacements who were subsequently screened and confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

PROFILE OF NEW MINISTER OF POWER

Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, an indigene of Ibadan in Oyo State, brings over 35 years of experience spanning public and private sector leadership roles in finance, policy reform, and institutional development.

He holds a First-Class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, along with postgraduate qualifications including a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Switzerland and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham.

Before his appointment, Tegbe served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led several high-level reform initiatives, including policy design and implementation support for government institutions and subnational entities.

He has also worked with key institutions across Nigeria’s economic and regulatory space, including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Nigeria Revenue Service, as well as international and private sector organisations such as Shell, Huawei, General Electric, MTN, and the Odu’a Group.

PROFILE OF MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, from Igbagun in Kogi State, is a seasoned diplomat and public administrator with decades of service in Nigeria’s foreign affairs sector.

He holds a First-Class degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he graduated with distinction and received the Dean’s Prize as the best student in his faculty. He also obtained a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.

Enikanolaiye joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and rose through the ranks to become Director and later Permanent Secretary in 2016, before retiring from public service in 2017 after 35 years of service.

Over the course of his diplomatic career, he served in several Nigerian missions abroad, including Ethiopia, Serbia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and later headed Nigeria’s mission in New Delhi, India.

He is a recipient of multiple honours, including the Presidential Civil Service Merit Award, the Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award, and recognition as a Distinguished Fellow of the National Defence College.

Before his latest appointment, he served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Office of the Chief of Staff.

The Presidency said the appointments are aimed at strengthening leadership in key sectors of governance and enhancing Nigeria’s diplomatic and energy performance.
