TRAGEDY IN ONDO AS 18-MONTH-OLD GIRL IS KILLED, FAMILY DEMANDS JUSTICE
A tragic incident has thrown residents of Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State into shock after an 18-month-old girl was reportedly killed by an unidentified assailant at a farm settlement in the community.
The heartbreaking incident reportedly occurred on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Agoti Settlement, a farming community located in Idanre, where the child was attacked under circumstances now being investigated by security authorities.
According to the child’s father, Bright Kalu, who works as a farmer in the area, the toddler was with her mother and siblings at their farm camp while he had gone to another nearby location for routine activities.
Speaking on the incident, Kalu explained that he returned later in the day and noticed that his wife appeared distressed and frightened. After asking what had happened, he was informed that an unknown individual had stormed the camp and attacked the family.
He said his wife managed to rescue three of their children during the attack, but one child could not be found immediately.
Kalu said he quickly joined efforts with his elder brother to search the surrounding area after receiving the disturbing report. During the search, they later discovered the lifeless body of the missing child behind their residence.
The grieving father has now appealed to the Ondo State Government, security agencies, and relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible for the attack are identified and prosecuted.
The matter was initially reported at Olofin Police Station in Idanre before being escalated to the Ondo State Police Command headquarters in Akure for further investigation.
Confirming the development, spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, stated that a suspect has already been taken into custody in connection with the case.
According to police authorities, investigations are ongoing and the suspect will face prosecution upon the conclusion of the investigation process.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, with renewed calls for improved security measures in rural communities across the state.
