The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 edition of the EducationUSA Nigeria Opportunity Fund Programme (OFP), offering support to qualified Nigerian students seeking admission into higher institutions in the United States.
According to information released by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria, the application portal opened on June 15, 2026, and interested applicants have until June 30, 2026, to complete their submissions.
The programme, managed through the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Mission under EducationUSA Nigeria, is aimed at helping academically outstanding Nigerian students with strong leadership potential pursue higher education opportunities in the United States.
Officials said the initiative is designed to improve access to U.S. education while strengthening educational cooperation and economic ties between Nigeria and the United States.
The 2026 edition of the programme is also connected to the Freedom 250 celebration, marking 250 years of American leadership, innovation, and democratic development.
In its statement, the U.S. Mission noted that the programme will help prepare globally competitive talents whose academic and professional development align with emerging global economic and strategic priorities.
The mission further explained that the initiative promotes secure and lawful participation of international students within the American higher education system, while ensuring beneficiaries understand and comply fully with U.S. student visa regulations.
Priority consideration will reportedly be given to exceptional students pursuing courses connected to strategic sectors such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other critical emerging technologies.
The Opportunity Fund Programme provides financial assistance to cover essential application-related expenses, including standardized test fees, admission application fees, and other required costs that may pose financial barriers for students.
To qualify, applicants are expected to demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership ability, clear educational goals, research capability, notable achievements, and commitment to complying with U.S. immigration and exchange programme regulations.
The U.S. Mission also emphasized that successful applicants will be required to maintain high standards of integrity, accountability, and full compliance throughout the programme.
Interested candidates are expected to submit a completed application form alongside academic records, personal statements, evidence of achievements, leadership experience, research background, and other supporting documents before the closing date.
The programme is expected to create opportunities for talented Nigerian students seeking international academic advancement while expanding access to global educational networks.
