WIKE DEFENDS FCT PROJECTS, SAYS TINUBU’S INFRASTRUCTURE RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF


The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended the ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, asserting that the impact of the Federal Government’s development initiatives is visible across the territory.

Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of Arterial Road N5 in Abuja, Wike said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made significant progress in infrastructure delivery, adding that residents can clearly see and feel the presence of government through completed and ongoing projects.

According to the minister, the scale of development being witnessed in the FCT reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving transportation networks, public services, and overall urban development.

Wike stated that if governance and infrastructure delivery remain major considerations for evaluating public office holders, the Tinubu administration has established a strong record through projects executed in the nation’s capital.

He challenged critics to identify areas within the FCT where government presence and development have not been felt, insisting that numerous projects have transformed communities and improved accessibility across Abuja.

The minister also addressed concerns that arose during the construction of Arterial Road N5, revealing that the project initially faced delays due to disputes over compensation for properties affected by the development.

According to him, community members had halted construction activities carried out by Julius Berger, citing concerns about compensation for demolished structures. Wike explained that he personally intervened by engaging with affected communities and relevant officials to resolve the issues.

He clarified that compensation was paid to verified property owners whose structures were affected by the project, stressing that payments were based on property ownership and verified claims rather than community affiliation.

Wike maintained that the FCT Administration fulfilled its obligations to all eligible beneficiaries and challenged anyone with legitimate claims of unpaid compensation to come forward with evidence.

The minister reiterated that public funds would only be used for lawful compensation related to government projects and not for unverified demands.

His remarks come amid continued commissioning of infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory. Earlier this week, the FCT Administration inaugurated sections of the Outer Southern Expressway linking Ring Road 1 and Ring Road 2, a project aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion.

Wike noted that several of the projects being commissioned under the current administration were inherited from previous governments but were completed rather than abandoned. He said the decision to continue and deliver such projects demonstrates the administration’s commitment to ensuring value for public resources.

The minister has repeatedly linked the infrastructure drive in Abuja to broader efforts by the Federal Government to improve living standards and expand economic opportunities within the capital territory.

In recent months, the FCT Administration has intensified road construction, rehabilitation works, and other urban development projects as part of ongoing efforts to modernize Abuja and address infrastructure gaps.
