YOUTH MINISTER UNVEILS AGRIBUSINESS FUND AS NYSC PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR YOUNG FARMERS


The Federal Government has intensified efforts to boost youth participation in agriculture following the unveiling of the Youth in Agribusiness Land Trust Fund (YiALTF), a major initiative aimed at empowering young Nigerians through agribusiness development.

Speaking at the launch of the programme in Abuja, the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, described the initiative as a strategic move to create employment opportunities and strengthen youth involvement across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

According to the Minister, the Agribusiness Land Trust Fund is designed to bring together young Nigerians who are interested in agricultural production and agribusiness, while also providing access to opportunities that can improve productivity and economic growth.

Olawande stated that the Ministry, in collaboration with development partners and stakeholders, remains committed to expanding economic opportunities for youths nationwide through sustainable agricultural initiatives.

“This is a call to action, a call to partnership, and a call to invest in Nigerian youths. I invite all stakeholders to support this vision,” the Minister said.

He added that state governments, financial institutions, development partners, and private sector players all have critical roles to play in ensuring the success of the programme.

Also speaking at the event, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, reaffirmed the Scheme’s commitment to supporting agricultural transformation and youth empowerment.

Nafiu noted that the NYSC recognizes the importance of youth participation in achieving food security and advancing national agricultural development.

He explained that the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme already places strong emphasis on agro-allied ventures and entrepreneurship, equipping Corps Members with practical skills needed to succeed in agribusiness.

According to him, the newly launched initiative would further provide Corps Members with practical experience, mentorship, and access to opportunities within the agricultural value chain.

“This initiative will provide our Corps Members with practical experience, mentorship, and access to opportunities within the agricultural value chain. It will also help nurture a new generation of agripreneurs who are ready to transform Nigeria’s agricultural landscape,” Nafiu said.

The NYSC Director-General commended the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), and other development partners for their commitment to agricultural transformation and youth empowerment.

He also called for sustained public support to harness the creativity, innovation, and resilience of Nigerian youths toward national development.

The event also featured the recognition and celebration of outstanding young agripreneurs for their contributions to agricultural innovation and development in Nigeria.
