2027 ELECTION: INEC EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR POLITICAL PARTIES TO SUBMIT CANDIDATES' LISTS

INEC EXTENDS DEADLINE FOR POLITICAL PARTIES TO SUBMIT CANDIDATES' LISTS

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal particulars of their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

The electoral commission announced the extension in a statement issued on Sunday by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna.

According to INEC, the previous deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026, as contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election, has been shifted to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The commission explained that the decision followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which requested additional time on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the upload of their candidates' names and personal particulars within the stipulated period.

INEC stated that the extension reflects its commitment to promoting inclusiveness while operating within the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The commission urged all political parties to make effective use of the additional window to complete the submission process before the new deadline expires.

The extension comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with candidate nomination processes nearing completion.
