LABOUR PARTY DISMISSES REPORTS OF NOMINATION FAILURE, SAYS PRESIDENTIAL TICKET WAS SUBMITTED BEFORE INEC DEADLINE


The Labour Party has dismissed reports alleging that it failed to upload the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closed its nomination portal for the 2027 General Elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that it completed the nomination process within the timeframe stipulated by INEC.

According to the statement, the Labour Party successfully uploaded the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates on July 10, 2026, four days before the July 14 deadline set by the electoral commission. The party also stated that the names of all its duly nominated National Assembly candidates were submitted before the portal closed.

The party maintained that the nomination process was completed in full compliance with INEC's guidelines and rejected suggestions that its presidential ticket was omitted from the commission's portal.

The Labour Party also expressed concern over media reports attributed to anonymous INEC sources, urging news organisations to verify sensitive electoral information before publication. It said the publication of unverified claims could mislead the public and undermine confidence in the electoral process.

The party further noted that INEC has already released its timetable for publishing the final list of validly nominated candidates for the 2027 General Elections. It expressed confidence that the commission's official publication would confirm the successful nomination of its candidates.

The Labour Party called on its members, supporters and the general public to disregard reports suggesting that it failed to submit its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, describing such reports as inaccurate.
