ADELEKE COMMISSIONS 9.3KM EDE DUAL CARRIAGEWAY, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO INFRASTRUCTURE


Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday officially commissioned the 9.3-kilometre Ede Dual Carriageway, describing the project as a major milestone in his administration's drive to improve infrastructure and enhance transportation across the state.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Ede, Governor Adeleke said the newly completed road is strategically important as it connects major residential communities, schools, markets, and key routes leading to Osogbo and Ibadan.

The governor noted that residents of Ede had endured years of traffic congestion, flooding, and poor road conditions, expressing confidence that the project would significantly improve movement within the town and stimulate economic activities.

According to him, the road project reflects his administration's commitment to equitable infrastructure development across all parts of Osun State.

"Our infrastructure renewal agenda cuts across every zone of the state. What we are doing in Osogbo, we are also doing in Ila, Iwo, Ile-Ife, Ilesa and Ede. Our engineers have delivered quality work in line with approved standards, and I commend the Ministry of Works and the contractors for a job well done," Adeleke said.

The Director of Highways at the Osun State Ministry of Works, Mr Maruf Ojebode, explained that the project was designed to address the persistent traffic congestion and flooding that had affected the Ede metropolis for years.

He disclosed that the road project was executed in two phases, with the contracts awarded in November 2023. Phase One covered the 5.4-kilometre Akoda–Baptist High School section and was handled by Great Enyork Technology Ltd, while Phase Two, spanning 3.6 kilometres from Baptist High School to Oke Gada, was executed by Engineec Integrated Engineering Ltd.

Ojebode added that both phases were completed in December 2024 and that the dual carriageway features pedestrian walkways, a central median, and solar-powered streetlights. He also noted that geotechnical investigations, traffic studies, and hydraulic assessments were carried out before construction commenced to ensure the road met both federal and state highway standards.

Also speaking at the event, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, appealed for a peaceful, free, and fair governorship election in Osun State. The monarch also condemned hate speech directed at the Ede community in relation to the forthcoming governorship contest and urged all stakeholders to uphold the democratic process.
