ADELEKE URGES ACCORD SUPPORTERS TO RENEW GRASSROOTS CAMPAIGN AFTER COURT VICTORY

The Osun State governorship candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, has called on party members and supporters to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the August 15 governorship election following the Court of Appeal’s decision affirming the party’s legal standing.

Adeleke, in a statement shared on his official X account on Tuesday, described the judgment as a victory for democracy and the rule of law, urging supporters to remain focused on the forthcoming election.

He said the ruling had reaffirmed that Accord remained a recognised and prepared political platform ahead of the poll.

“Again, Accord is victorious — democracy and the rule of law have prevailed,” Adeleke stated, while congratulating members and supporters of the party for their commitment.

The candidate appreciated supporters for remaining steadfast despite what he described as efforts to create uncertainty around the party, urging them to shift their attention back to engaging with voters across the state.

Adeleke called on party leaders, youths, women and other stakeholders to increase mobilisation efforts across polling units, wards and communities, expressing confidence that stronger grassroots engagement would help the party achieve its electoral objectives.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja had earlier overturned a Federal High Court judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the African Democratic Congress and four other political parties.

The appellate court held that the lower court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the suit, describing the earlier judgment as invalid. It also ruled that there was no sufficient legal basis for the deregistration order.

The three-member panel, led by Justice Abba Mohammed, noted that the affected political parties had presented evidence of participation and electoral achievements, including winning elective positions in previous elections.

The court’s decision has cleared the way for the affected parties to continue their participation in Nigeria’s political process ahead of upcoming elections.
