AIYEDATIWA PAYS TRIBUTE TO AKEREDOLU AT 70, VOWS TO PRESERVE HIS LEGACY


Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has paid glowing tribute to his late predecessor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, on what would have been his 70th birthday, describing him as a courageous leader, mentor, and statesman whose legacy continues to inspire the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday to commemorate Akeredolu's posthumous birthday anniversary, Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration's commitment to building on the foundation laid by the former governor and sustaining his vision of a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Ondo State.

Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), served as Governor of Ondo State from February 2017 until his passing on December 27, 2023, after a prolonged illness. During his tenure, he was widely recognized for championing true federalism, establishing the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, and advancing infrastructure and security initiatives across the state.

Reflecting on the occasion, Aiyedatiwa said he joined the Akeredolu family, the people of Ondo State, and admirers across Nigeria in celebrating the enduring legacy of the late governor.

He described Akeredolu as a man who led with courage, defended justice without compromise, and remained steadfast in his commitment to public service and the development of Ondo State.

The governor also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to have served as deputy governor under Akeredolu, saying the late leader's confidence, guidance, and mentorship continue to shape his approach to governance and leadership.

Reaffirming his administration's resolve, Aiyedatiwa pledged to preserve and expand on the developmental vision of his predecessor for the benefit of the people of Ondo State.

He also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Akeredolu's soul and for strength and comfort for his family and all those who continue to cherish his memory, declaring that the late governor's legacy lives on.
