APC INAUGURATES OSUN GUBER CAMPAIGN COUNCIL, TARGETS VICTORY IN AUGUST 15 ELECTION
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its National Campaign Council for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, describing the poll as a critical contest and a key test of the party's preparedness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The 276-member campaign council was inaugurated on Tuesday in Abuja, with Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors' Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, appointed as chairman of the council.
Speaking at the event, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the party would deploy its nationwide political structure, grassroots network and campaign machinery to secure victory for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
Yilwatda said the campaign council was carefully constituted to mobilise the human and material resources required for a successful election, expressing confidence in the APC's strength across the country.
According to him, the Osun governorship election will serve as the party's final electoral exercise before the 2027 general elections, making it an important opportunity to assess its campaign structure and mobilisation strategy.
He disclosed that the APC would embark on extensive person-to-person and house-to-house campaigns across Osun State, leveraging the support of governors, members of the National Assembly, state lawmakers, local government chairmen, councillors and party officials to engage voters at the grassroots.
The APC chairman also noted that the composition of the campaign council reflects the diversity of Osun State, with significant attention given to mobilising women, youths and other key voting blocs.
Responding on behalf of the council, Governor Hope Uzodimma pledged the commitment of members to conduct a peaceful, issue-based campaign focused on earning the confidence of the people of Osun State.
He urged party members to remain united, describing unity as the foundation for electoral success. Uzodimma also said the campaign would highlight the achievements of the APC-led Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as well as the performance of APC administrations across the country.
The APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, said the party had intensified consultations with traditional rulers, market leaders, youths, students, artisans, professionals, women and religious leaders across the state.
According to him, the response from residents has strengthened the party's confidence ahead of the election, expressing optimism that the APC would reclaim the governorship through democratic and lawful means.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several APC leaders, including pioneer National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande; former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore; Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru; and other senior party stakeholders.
