ABDUCTED OYO FARMER REGAINS FREEDOM AS POLICE INTENSIFY HUNT FOR KIDNAPPERS


A 60-year-old farmer, Mathew Owoade, who was abducted along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare bush road in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, has regained his freedom following a coordinated security operation by the Oyo State Police Command.

The Command's Public Relations Officer, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday, explaining that the victim was freed after sustained pressure mounted by security operatives involved in the rescue mission.

According to the police, the coordinated operation forced the kidnappers to abandon the victim, leading to his safe recovery on the evening of July 13, 2026.

Following his rescue, Owoade was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment. The police said he would be debriefed after receiving medical attention as investigators continue efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for the abduction.

The victim was kidnapped on Saturday, July 12, 2026, while returning home along the Igbojaye–Budo Aare bush road, an incident that sparked concern among residents of the area.

Reacting to the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Olugbenga Abimbola, commended the joint efforts of security agencies, local vigilantes, community leaders, and residents whose cooperation contributed to the victim's rescue.

He reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, assuring residents that security agencies would continue to pursue criminal elements and prevent them from finding safe haven in Oyo State.

The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that could assist ongoing security operations.
