ALGON ONDO DISMISSES PROTEST RUMOURS, REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO PEACE AND STABILITY


The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ondo State Chapter, has dismissed widespread reports suggesting that Local Government Chairmen across the state are planning to embark on a protest, describing the claims as false, misleading, and without any factual basis.

The clarification was made during a courtesy and solidarity visit by the leadership of ALGON, Ondo State Chapter, to the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, at the State Police Headquarters in Akure on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Leading the delegation, the Chairman of ALGON in Ondo State, Hon. Gbenga Fasua, explained that the visit became necessary following information circulating in some quarters alleging that Local Government Chairmen in the state were mobilising for a planned protest.

According to Hon. Fasua, neither ALGON nor any of the 18 Local Government Chairmen in Ondo State has any intention of organising or participating in any protest activity, contrary to rumours being circulated in certain circles.

He emphasized that Local Government Chairmen, being key stakeholders in grassroots governance and security management within their respective councils, maintain a healthy and cordial working relationship with all security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force.

The ALGON Chairman further noted that the association remains committed to lawful engagement and institutional dialogue, stressing that if any legitimate issue requiring collective action ever arises, the appropriate authorities, including security agencies, would be officially informed through established channels.

Responding during the meeting, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended ALGON leadership for the visit and for promptly addressing the misinformation before it escalated into unnecessary public concern.

The Police Commissioner noted that effective communication between public institutions and security agencies remains critical in sustaining peace, maintaining public trust, and preventing avoidable tension within the state.


ALGON reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace, stability, and good governance across all local government areas in Ondo State while urging members of the public to disregard unverified reports regarding any planned protest by council chairmen.

The meeting was attended by members of the Ondo State Police Command management team alongside several Local Government Chairmen from across the state.

The association also called on residents to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with credible information that would contribute to the collective safety and development of Ondo State.
